Rosa McMullen Obituary

  • Rosa "Rose" McMullen passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020.
  • A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Eastside Eatonton City in Eatonton, GA.

Ms. Rosa Mae McMullen of Milledgeville, GA was born in Eatonton, Georgia, on March 15, 1944 to the parentage of King David and Della Scott McMullen. After a beautiful and full life, on Monday, November 30, 2020 she was called home and granted her well-deserved wings to glory.

Rosa was lovingly and respectfully known as Rose to her friends and family. Born in the Kinderhook area of Putnam County, she received her elementary and early education there as well. Later, as a young adult in search of a better life and bigger opportunities, Rose and three of her siblings migrated to the state of New Jersey.

The path leading Rose to her lofty dreams was not easy; after only a year had passed, two of her siblings elected to return to Georgia, packing their bags and leaving Rose and her one remaining sibling in the upstate area, still working to eke out a living. The struggle was not in vain. Never one to give up, Rose continued her education with relentless persistence until she was finally met with success; she was beyond proud to earn her home-care degree, along with the official title of Nurse. Well-qualified and now fully licensed to care for the elderly, Rose secured a great position working for the New Jersey Waterford Nursery Home in Wharton, New Jersey, where she spent 30 wonderful and fulfilling years. During this time, she used the amazing gift of her selfless love to bring joy to hearts and lives of countless patients in their last days. Upon retiring, Rose moved to Milledgeville, GA to settle down and relax after years upon years of dedicated hard work.

Of course, Rose’s loving nature would not allow her gifted hands and giving spirit to remain idle, even after retirement; she had the most caring heart to help anyone, and soon Rose began doing volunteer work, which lasted for years, continuing to show her outstanding character and care for others. One of her favorite pastimes was getting together with coworkers and friends to play games and enjoy each other’s company, and she also loved talking to her relatives over the phone, visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She even occasionally visited the Senior Center in Milledgeville, GA.

Rose is preceded in death by her son, Gerald McMullen; three brothers, Cleave McMullen, Johnny Sam McMullen, and James West McMullen; and two sisters, Eunice Cooper and Dolly Hill.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory three sons, Sylvester McMullen (Samantha), Gerard McMullen, and Willie McMullen; and one daughter, Sheila McMullen; one sister, Gladys Jones; three brothers, Arthur McMullen, Joe Lewis McMullen, and Willie McMullen; twelve grandchildren Kiara, Kiara, Jarrell, ,Laurice, Ravon, Deon, Darrius, Yvonne, Darryel, Jalessa, Shantect and Yanice Mcmullen; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
