Mr. Charlie J. Butts (age 66) was born in Eatonton, GA on January 9, 1957, to the parentage of the late Charlie Butts and Euria D. Butts. On Sunday, June 4, 2023, Charlie departed this life at the Eatonton Health and Rehabilitation Center.

With his easygoing, likeable personality, Charlie made many friends in grade school. His popularity only increased in high school when he joined the school football team. Charlie graduated with the Putnam County High School Class of 1975, and his love of football continued throughout his life. His favorite NFL team was the Green Bay Packers.

Charlie had a few different jobs once he finished school, the most notable being Coleman Furniture Company. While there, he honed his skill of making excellent quality furniture, and even taught others how to do the same. Charlie’s hard work and dedication at Coleman eventually elevated him to the role of a respected supervisor, which he held for many years.

Charlie loved his family dearly, and he was known and loved by many—he really was the “The Man.” He was also an active member of the social club “The Brotherhood”; he also took part in many of his favorite outdoor pastimes like fishing and hunting, which he learned from his father, as well as cooking, a skill he learned from a veteran cook, his mother, Mrs. Euria (affectionately known as Mrs. Puria). Charlie shared many outdoors adventures and cookouts with his family, a special favorite of his being the huge Sunday dinners held at his parents’ home on Gholston Lane. Every Sunday you could find Charlie surrounded by a crowd of his family members, enjoying amazing dinners prepared by Mrs. Puria.

Charlie is preceded in death by his father Cleveland Butts; his brother, Alfred C. Butts; three aunts, Minnie Lee Collins, Rosa Mae Lawson, and Odessa Butts; and three uncles, Tommy Lawrence, James Henry Butts, and William Butts.

To cherish his loving memory, Charlie leaves his devoted mother, Euria D. Butts; his two daughters Zeporia Porter and Chrystal Porter; three sisters, Elaine Butts, Velma J. Butts, and Angela Butts; four brothers Fredrick Humphrey, Milton Butts, Ronnie Butts, and Luther Troy Butts; along with twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.
